Hundreds of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) contract workers staged a protest here on Wednesday demanding pay on par with workers of the Urban Local Body.

Shankar, All India Central Council of Trade Unions vice president, said that there is a disparity in the wages paid to the workers. While some workers at sewage treatment plants are paid between Rs 6,000 and Rs 7,000 per month, some others are paid between Rs 12,000 and Rs 14,000 per month.

He said they were also demanding the implementation of 'same work same pay' policy.
The workers were also seeking regularisation of their work and bonus.

Shankar said the board will hold a meeting on January 8 to discuss the issue.
