JD(S) MLA from Navalgund in Dharwad district, N H Konareddi on Thursday demanded that the Centre should remove Additional Solicitor General Atmaram Nadkarni from his post as he represents Goa in the inter-state Mahadayi water
disputes.
Addressing reporters here, the MLA said Nadkarni has reportedly stated that the final award of the Mahadayi river water disputes tribunal will be in Goa's favour. Karnataka should not go ahead with construction of canals across Kalasa and Banduri, two tributaries of the Mahadayi. Goa can only part with 0.4 tmcft of water to Karnataka.
Konareddi said Nadkarni's statement shows that Goa has complete control over the tribunal. The Karnataka government should immediately write to the Centre in this regard and ensure that Nadkarni is removed from his post.
Besides, he said a delegation of farmers from his party will soon meet the prime minister and urge him to resolve the inter-state water dispute.
