The Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) has not yet decided on demolishing the SR Block on the Vani Vilas Hospital premises.

Dr S Sacchidanand, Director-cum-Dean, BMCRI,  said in a statement: "No decision has been taken by the department on the demolition, renovation or reconstruction of the Sajjan Rao Block at Vani Vilas Hospital. The department will take an appropriate decision only after examining the various feasible options."

On January 3,  DH  reported the  BMCRI's proposal to raze down the iconic SR Block and restore four other blocks that sustained damages during the  excavation of a tunnel and construction of a station  for  Namma Metro. The next day, this newspaper reported how conservation architects, structural engineers and the family of Rao were shocked by the plan.

The BMCRI wants the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) to pay a compensation of Rs 48 crore to repair the damages.

Officials of the Karnataka Health System Development and Reform Project (KHSDRP) who  inspected the buildings are of the opinion that the block should be razed down.
