Hint on payment of money to assailants

The investigation team probing the murder of Deepak Rao at Katipalla learnt that the four accused, who were arrested on the charges of murder, have received huge amount of money recently.

The police who arrested the accused within a few hours of the incident are interrogating the accused with this regard. Pinki Nawaz and Rizwan, who suffered bullet injuries when the police opened fire at the vehicles, were not available for the investigation. Mohammed Naushad and Mohammed Irshan are being thoroughly interrogated. They have given a hint on money being given to them, said police sources.

"A huge amount of money had reached the prime accused Pinki Nawaz, which was later shared among the four. The amount was transferred through bank account," said the sources.

"The police are investigating whether the money was paid for carrying out the murder. The deceased Deepak Rao was not a prominent leader of either BJP, Bajrang Dal or any other organisation. He was only a BJP member. The police are investigating the purpose behind the transfer of money," said a police officer, who is a part of the investigation team.

Pinki Nawaz was active among a few rowdy groups in the region. The police are looking into his links as well. In addition, the police are also looking into the issue of scuffle over tying a flex during Eid Milad and later developments as well.
