A 14-year-old school girl was killed in an accident near Beerasandra Gate on the outskirts of the city on Saturday, triggering protests from villagers who blocked the highway connecting Hosur from Dabbspet.
Harshitha, a class 9 student, was on her way to school when a speeding Tata Sumo knocked her down, killing her on the spot. Villagers gathered at the spot and blocked the road for nearly an hour. They were angry that despite many representations, the highway authorities had not installed humps on the road.
They burnt tyres and demanded that highway officials visit the spot and address the problem. Traffic came to a halt in Devanahalli and Doddaballapur for some time. The situation came under control only after the jurisdictional Vishwanathapura police intervened.
