A 55-year-old woman and her two daughters committed suicide in the district over a suspected love failure involving one of the children, the police said on Wednesday.
Seetha, a widow, and her daughters Sorna (26) and Padma (20) were found dead in their house at Sankupuram near Vasudevanallur on Wenesday morning.
The police, who broke open the door of the house following a complaint from the neighbours, said the three appeared to have consumed poison. Some empty bottles were found by their side.
According to initial investigation, Sorna was in love with a youth. His parents were making arrangements for his marriage with another girl and this apparently led to their suicides.
They left a suicide note, the police said, but declined to reveal its contents. Further investigation is on.
