'Rs 100 cr for vented dams in State'

Speaking to Deccan Herald at Dharmastala here on Friday, he said that vented dams will be constructed as per the recommendation of K C Reddy Committee. Instead of river diversion, more vented dams will be constructed across rivers to find permanent solution to water crisis, he added.

Vented dams will be constructed across rivers in Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts through the Antar Ganga Minor Irrigation Corporation. The responsibility of survey in this regard has been handed over to the Coastal Karnataka Development Authority, he said adding that the government will release sufficient funds for the implementation of scheme.

Varahi project
The works of Varahi Project, which faced several setbacks, has been commenced, Bommai said.

Water will be supplied to about 2,100 acres of agricultural land till June. Water will be provided to 5,000 acres of agricultural land by the end of year, he said and added that he will be visiting the Varahi region within 15 days.

Talking about the Netravati River diversion proposal, Bommai said that the government has not taken any final decision yet. A decision will be taken only after conducting a comprehensive survey, he added.
