Banker duped by woman he met on matrimonial website

A 35-year-old bank employee was cheated of Rs 3.4 lakh by a woman through a matrimonial website in Giri Nagar on Saturday.

The victim, Dhananjay Bhat Chitte, a resident of Vinoba Colony, in his complaint said he met the suspect, identified herself as Shilpa, on the portal. They spoke over the phone and decided to get married.

After some days, Shilpa sought financial help from Chitte saying that her brother was admitted to hospital for an immediate surgery and that she need Rs 3.4 lakh to pay the hospital bill.

Chitte then transferred the amount to her account. However, after a few days, when Chitte tried to call her on her cell phone, it was switched off. He then realised that he was cheated and decided to go to the police.

The investigation revealed that she had deleted her matrimonial profile. The police are trying to track her through her mobile phone and bank account details.
