SEC orders owners to deposit fire arms

The carrying and use of fire arms has been prohibited with a view to maintain law and order during the polls.

Local bodies exempted

The ban applies to rural areas and areas coming under Town and City municipal bodies are exempted from the ban. The owners of licensed fire arms should deposit them at the nearest armoury or police station. The restriction, however, does not apply to government staff on duty, security at banks and industrial areas and for self-protection in border areas, Deputy Commissioner N Prabhakar has said.
