<p align="justify">The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has scrapped the contract to build an integrated skywalk project at the Mahatma Gandhi Circle.</p>.<p align="justify" class="bodytext">Following this, the Karnataka High Court has disposed of a petition that had sought quashing of the work order and the agreements between the Palike and a private agency that had won the contract.</p>.<p align="justify" class="bodytext">A <a href="http://www.deccanherald.com/content/651954/skywalk-set-obscure-gandhi-statue.html" target="_blank">DH report</a> questioning the controversial project and its potential to destroy the city's most valued heritage space had sparked an outcry.</p>.<p align="justify" class="bodytext">The successful bidder for the BBMP tender, Prakash Arts Pvt Ltd, had already commenced excavation and digging for the project.</p>.<p align="justify" class="bodytext">Directed by Bengaluru Development Minister K J George, this was <a href="http://www.deccanherald.com/content/652148/dh-impact-outrage-forces-bbmp.html" target="_blank">temporarily put on hold</a>.</p>.<p align="justify" class="bodytext">Thereafter, a few social activists, who had campaigned against the steel flyover project and Krumbiegel Hall demolition, had filed a public interest litigation in the high court.</p>.<p align="justify" class="bodytext">Their fight was also against projects that would destroy "the entire aesthetics of the Mahatma Gandhi Circle".</p>
