Maoists close down thousands of schools in Nepal

Members of the pro-Maoist All Nepal National Free Students Union (Revolutionary) also allegedly attacked some schools and school buses for not withdrawing the fee hike.
The Private and Boarding Schools Association Nepal (PABSON) alleged that the Maoist cadres vandalised eight vehicles belonging to various schools in Kathmandu and also inflicted damage on the infrastructure of half a dozen buildings.

It said some 8,000 private schools were shut down under the threat.The account offices of 240 private schools in Kathmandu have also remained closed for the past one week.

President of PABSON Rajesh Khadka said it is unfair to issue threats to all private schools because a few schools charged high fees.The shutdown of schools comes ahead of the Maoists intensified agitation to toppled the coalition government starting from May 1.
There are also reports that the Maoists have been occupying private property in various parts of the capital to provide temporary shelters to their workers who have started pouring in from various parts of the country to take part in May 1 grand rally.
