Maruti Suzuki launched the much anticipated third generation of the iconic Swift at Auto Expo 2018 in Greater Noida on Thursday. It has a Rs 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) price tag. For the first time, Swift is also offering auto gear shift technology with both petrol and diesel versions.

Speaking at the launch, Kenichi Ayukawa, managing director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki said, “The all new Swift will carry on the same legacy of the older Swifts that has been ruling the Indian car market for more than a decade. Selling more than 1.8 million, Swift has become the most sought after hatchback in India. It’s built on Suzuki’s 5th generation ‘HEARTECT’ platform for more strength and performance.”

The all new Swift has the 1.2 LVVT petrol and DdiS 190 diesel engines, which they say is tuned for superior performance. The makers have loaded the car with standard dual airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX (child seat restraint system). They also claim that the new car has improved it’s Noise, Vibration and Harshness performance.

“By launching the Maruti Suzuki Swift in 2005, we did not launch the car, but we launched the category. This is the most desired car just for its styling and sporting attitude. Fifty percent of Swift buyers are first time car buyers. With the new launch, I expect this to do the same business,” says Randhir Singh Kalsi, executive director of Marketing and Sales of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. The car will be available in pearl metallic lucent orange, midnight blue, solid white, metallic silky silver, and metallic magma grey.

Apart from the Swift, Maruti Suzuki showcased a number of other offerings at Auto Expo 2018. The showstopper remains the new Future S concept and e-Survivor concept.
