Discover the power of omega-3

Omega-3 is a type of fatty acid found in fish, oils, and seeds, offering several health benefits. From preventing cancer, heart disease, and arthritis, to lowering the risk of depression and dementia, omega-3s make for a vital nutrient. Let's take a look at how omega-3s benefit people across age groups:

Infants & pregnancy: Women should include these fatty acids in their diet, either in the form of supplements or consume foods rich in omega-3s before and during pregnancy, and while breastfeeding. Omega-3s consist of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), of which DHA is essential throughout pregnancy and in the early stages of an infant's life. Pregnant women can obtain adequate omega-3 fatty acids from vegetable oils, low-mercury fish, and fish oil. DHA is essential to ensure optimal development of foetal brain, eye, immune and nervous systems.

Children & teens: Omega-3 has the ability to influence everything from your children's mood to their academic performance. It improves attention, focus and behaviour. It can even help reduce hyperactivity in kids under 12.

Young adults: According to studies, people who eat fatty fish twice a week are at a lower risk of heart diseases. Omega-3s also seem to alleviate risk of several cancers. Omega-3 oils are effective in the treatment for schizophrenia, depression, and bipolar disorder. Omega-3s can resolve skin conditions, painful menstruation and Crohn's disease.

Elderly: Omega-3 fatty acids keep the heart rhythm steady, and consumption of fish and fish oil can slow down arteriosclerosis. Fish oil reduced the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, and cut down the risk of dementia. Fish oil - in combination with calcium and primrose oil - is a good way to boost bone density in people with osteoporosis.
