Students confused by differential marking pattern in AIEEE

Unlike previous years, the questions carried differential marks. Earlier, the questions in each sections used to carry the same number of marks.

The three-hour paper carried 90 questions for 432 marks. These questions comprised 30 in each of the subjects of mathematics, physics and chemistry. Each subject had 24 questions of four marks each and six questions of eight marks each.
"Last year all the questions carried uniform marks. The change in the marking pattern was bit confusing," said a student.

"Inclusion of differential marking has confused students and those who were able to allocate time properly among the different questions with different marking schemes were able to do well," said Ajay Antony, Course Director, IIT JEE Training, at TIME institute.
Students qualifying the test will be eligible for admission into National Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Information Technology and many other prestigious institutes.

The Central Board of Secondary Education, which conducts the test, said there were no reports of any untoward incident during the exam.
On the basis of performance in AIEEE, separate rank lists will be prepared for B.Tech. and B.Arch/B.Planning. Score Card indicating All India Rank and State Rank with total marks and marks in each subject shall be sent to all candidates appearing in AIEEE, the CBSE said.

Candidates scoring above a certain cut off percentage of marks will be called for counselling. The result of AIEEE is likely to be declared on or before June seven this year.
Nearly, ten lakh students had appeared in the test last year.
