The police suspect that Kamat may have been strangled to death. After killing Kamat, the killers may have dumped the body on a desolate stretch of Agasarkoppa-Jammanakatti road, pushing the car into the bushes. On Sunday afternoon, when some people noticed the car they became suspicious and informed the police.
Gold and mobile missing
The police suspect that since gold jewellery and the mobile belonging to Kamat were missing, the killers might have murdered him for gain.
Kamat had left Gulbarga on Saturday evening and had dinner at his sister Lalita Mendegar’s house in Bijapur.
Later, he called up his wife Kalavathi who was at Bagalkot’s Vidyagiri at 11 pm and told her that he would return home.
Earlier, he had asked his driver who had driven from Gulbarga to get back by bus and he himself was driving the car, it is said. A case has been registered in Kerur.
