Two graduates held for duping students after promising medical seats

An engineering and a business management graduate were arrested for duping several persons by promising them post-graduate medical seats in reputed medical colleges.

The suspects are Rajath Shetty (31) from Kundapura in Udupi and Jayaprakash Singh (31) from Dhanbad in Jharkhand. Both were living in Kodigehalli.

City Police Commissioner T Suneel Kumar said: Shetty is a BE graduate from Manipal University and had worked in an IT firm two years before he launched his own consultancy. There were eight cheating cases registered against him in Manipal Police station in 2013 for the cheating medical student in Manipal and the cases are still pending before the court.

Another suspect Singh is a BBM graduate. He had come to the city in search of a job but began to dupe people by promising seats. There are two cheating cases against him in Sanjay Nagar and Kodigehalli police station. He duped the students by promising the medical seats.

The accused opened a Global Learning and Education Consultancy in BTM II Stage luring students and their parents from outside the state.

The police have seized valuables worth over Rs 1 crore from them and froze their bank accounts and investments made in the real estate and fixed deposits.

The police said that the accused also opened consultancy in various places in the city such as JP Consultancy, AJA Infrastructure, Frontier, Narayana Consultancy and IRS Consultancy.

They would take lakhs of rupees from the students and invest them in real estate, stock exchange, buying expensive vehicles and gold and went on foreign trips.

They would use fake names to avoid their clients and the police.

During the search operation, the police found 12 lakh in their personal accounts. They had also given Rs 20 lakh as advance to buy a flat in the Electronic City. The police also found Rs 50 lakh in fixed deposits.
