Lakhs of people from across the state travelled to Bengaluru to see the JD(S) give a formal launch to it's electoral campaign at the Vikasa Parva convention at Yelahanka on Saturday.

Though the party workers were ferried into the city in hundreds of buses as early as 7 am, the event started only late in the evening. Owing to heavy traffic jams along the way to Yelahanka, many buses could not even make it to the venue.

JD(S) state president

H D Kumaraswamy, who recently underwent a second heart surgery, himself had to walk nearly 1.5 km to the venue owing to the traffic jams. Once he entered the venue, he made a grand entrance to the stage by traversing through the crowds in his Rs one-crore campaign vehicle.

BSP supremo Mayawati, who was one of the main speakers at the rally, arrived at the HAL airport in Bengaluru at 12.15 pm and made way to a private hotel. She was received by the JD(S) supremo and JD(S) national general secretary Danish Ali at the hotel.
