20 injured in bee attack

More than 20 people were injured in a bee attack near Karapura Viraktha Mutt, near here on Sunday. All of them were returning after offering prayers at Male Mahadeshwara Hill and were relaxing on the banks of Suvarnavathi river when a swarm of bees attacked them.

People tried to save themselves and sought refuge inside the mutt and in the sugarcane fields.

Around 12 people received serious injuries and were treated at hospitals in Yalandur town and Santhemarahalli.

According to sources, the group lit fire beneath a tree to prepare breakfast. The smoke might have disturbed the bees in the nearby trees and they in turn attacked the people.
