Cognizant's India headcount dips by 4%

Global IT giant Cognizant has reduced its headcount in India by a whopping 8,000 people, almost 4% of its headcount a year ago.

The company has the third largest headcount in the country in IT services sector, after TCS and Infosys. Its headcount in the country stood at 1.8 lakh people on December 31, 2017, compared with Rs 1.88 lakh exactly a year ago, an analysis of company's annual 10K forms with SEC shows.

The company had approximately 260,000 employees at the end of 2017 - 50,400 in North America, 13,800 in Europe, and 195,800 at other locations throughout the world, including 180,000 in India.

"We are not party to any significant collective bargaining agreements. We consider our relations with our employees to be good," the company said.

Also, globally, the company's headcount has come down by 200 people.

The company had approximately 260,200 employees at the end of 2016, with 47,500 in the North American region, 11,500 in the European region, and 201,200 at other locations, including 188,000 in India.
