The JD(S) has three MPs—D H Deve Gowda, H D Kumaraswamy and N Chaluvarayaswamy—in the Lok Sabha. The JD(S) did not give any reason for abstaining from voting. Sources in the party said as there was not unity among opposition parties, they had decided to stay away from the voting.

Two BJP members from Karnataka—Sadananda Gowda and S Fakirappa—also  did  not  vote. It was learnt that both had taken permission from party leader Sushma Swaraj to abstain from voting.

Sadananda Gowda said that he had sought permission to participate in the local body president election at Mudigere. Fikirappa could not vote as he was ill.
