Fresh faces in Bihar

Last Updated 02 April 2018, 16:44 IST

Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday removed AICC general secretary C P Joshi as the in-charge of party affairs in Bihar and handed over the responsibility to senior Gujarat leader Shaktisinh Gohil, DHNS reports from New Delhi.

Rahul also appointed the dynamic three-term MLA from Allahabad Anugrah Narain Singh as the AICC in-charge of Uttarakhand in place of AICC general secretary Ambika Soni, who had expressed the desire to be relieved of the post.

"The party appreciates the hard work and contribution of Dr C P Joshi, who is relieved from the charge of the general secretary in-charge of Bihar," AICC general secretary Ashok Gehlot said in a statement here.

The 57-year-old Gohil, a former leader of the Congress Legislature Party in Gujarat, played a crucial role in ensuring the victory of Ahmed Patel in the keenly fought Rajya Sabha elections in the state in August last year.

He faces the tough task of reviving the Congress in the electorally crucial Bihar, where the party is a victim of factionalism and relegated to being a minor player as regional parties JD(U) and RJD hold sway over state politics.
