Congress poised for big win as BJP loses vote share: AICC secretary Tagore

Last Updated 06 April 2018, 13:02 IST

AICC Secretary and Belagavi Division in-charge Manickam Tagore said that the vote share of BJP has been dipping across the country with the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi lowering due to the disastrous performance of the Union government.

The vote share of the Congress has witnessed growth across the country, and based on it, the party is poised for a historic win in the state in the Assembly elections, he opined.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, Tagore said, the visits of AICC President Rahul Gandhi to the state and his Janashirvada Yatra has enthused new spirit among party cadre.

"In elections held across the country, BJP's vote share has been witnessing a drop as people are supporting Congress," Tagore claimed.

The agenda of the BJP to divide people on communal lines has failed. People want peace and development in the state and will stand by the Congress. BJP is expected to lose 5% to 7% votes in the state and Congress will witness a gain; thanks to the performance of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah-led government.

The proposal of the state government to accord Lingayat-Veershaiva (Basava tatva followers) separate religion status, has been approved by the state cabinet and sent to the centre for approval.

"It is not a move by the government to divide people, but to fulfill a 100-year-old demand. Party veteran Shamnur Shivashankarappa's opposition to it, has been made on different forums, and not on a party forum. The proposal is not seen by the Congress as election gimmick," Tagore clarified.
