A bus driver was conned out of Rs 7 lakh by a fraudster who promised him a job in the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).

L Govindaraj, of Sadashivanagar, said he had met a man named Hamza while driving a bus between Hassan and Bengaluru.

Hamza bragged about his "high-level contacts" in the BMRCL and said he could get him a job for a commission. Govindaraj later paid him Rs 5.5 lakh as the first instalment of the fee.

He paid another Rs 1.5 lakh but there was no sign of the job.

When Govindaraj confronted him, Hamza denied having taken money from
him and went incommunicado.

The bus driver then filed a complaint at the Sadashivanagar police station.
