Centre has not kept its promises: Ex-MP

Last Updated 10 April 2018, 10:09 IST

Former MP Vijay Shankar alleged that the NDA government at the centre has not fulfilled its promises made before the general elections, while, the Congress-led state government has fulfilled its assurances.

Addressing reporters here on Monday, he dared the BJP to reveal on what basis they will ask from people. "People have not forgotten the condition of the state during the regime of the earlier BJP government. Some leaders going to jail is their achievement. I was not given respect when I was in BJP".

He asked what happened to the promises made by Narendra Modi on Jan Lok Pal bill, Ganga-Cauvery river joining project, elimination of unemployment, ban on cow slaughter, retrieving black money from foreign banks and other assurances.

The people have realised that the BJP is anti-farmer and anti-rural development, he added.

"Modi has been working for the capitalists. The loans availed by corporates to the tune of Rs 2,00,000 crore has been waived off. If the farmers ask for loan waivers, the Central government points its fingers towards the state government. Only 25% of the loans provided to capitalists is given to the farmers," said Vijay Shankar.

He further criticised the Central government of increasing tax on products such as coffee, ginger and tobacco. The Modi government has imposed service tax on agricultural produces.

Meanwhile, the former MP predicted of Congress retaining power in the upcoming elections.

KPCC Secretary Venkappa Gowda and District Congress Committee President Shivu Madappa were present in the press meet.

'Disrespect by PM'

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not been respecting his women colleagues in the cabinet. He was ruthless to the extent that he did not even comfort his wife Yashoda Ben when she met with an accident in Anjanadri. How a person like him can implement welfare measures for women of the nation," asked Vijay Shankar.
