No one will rape mother of 3: BJP lawmaker

In yet another embarrassment for the BJP, one of its lawmakers on Wednesday gave a clean chit to his rape-accused colleague Kuldeep Senger saying that no one would "rape" a woman, who was a mother of two-three children.

Saffron party legislator Surendra Singh also claimed that his assertion was backed by "psychology".

"Mera manovigyan kehta hai ki koi bhi do-teen bachhon ki maa se rape nahi karega, (my knowledge of psychology says that no one will rape a mother of two-three children)," Singh said.

He, however, conceded that Senger's brother might have assaulted the rape victim's father. "The report of assault may be true and the guilty should be punished," he said.

Uttar Pradesh BJP leaders refused to comment on Surendra Singh's remarks saying they had no knowledge about the same.

The BJP government in the state was embarrassed further after one of the party spokespersons Deepti Bhardwaj attacked her own government on the issue and sought the intervention of party national president Amit Shah to set things right in the state.

In a series of tweets, Deepti questioned Yogi Adityanath government's delay in acting against Kuldeep Senger. "Action against Senger should have been taken immediately after the allegation," she said.

She said the inaction of the government could cost the party dear and might turn out to be an obstacle in the way of party's success in the future.
