The prosecution and the complainant have filed appeals before the High Court of Karnataka, challenging the city civil and sessions court order discharging Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swami of Sri Ramachandrapura Mutt, who was chargesheeted for allegedly raping a devotee of the Mutt.

On Thursday, both the appeals were listed before Justice Arvind Kumar. He observed that Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari has passed an order on listing both the appeals before Justice R B Budihal, so let him hear these appeals. Now, both the appeals would come up before Justice Budihal.

The 53rd City Civil and Sessions judge had passed an order on March 31, 2016, dropping the charges against the seer on the ground that there was not enough material in the charge sheet filed by the Criminal Investigation Department against the accused.

The probe was started, based on a complaint filed by the victim's daughter in 2014 alleging that Raghaveshwara Bharathi swami had sexually harassed her mother.
