Sanction special scholarship to students studying Kannada as optional subject

Delivering presidential address at the day-long sammelana held here on Saturday, he said the post-graduate students of Kannada should also get the scholarship from the Union government like the students of Sanskrit.

Special encouragement should be given to the students of computer courses to learn Kannada softwares like Baraha and Nudi. BSc in Computer Application should comprise a paper on Kannada softwares, Upadhya urged.

Welcoming the government’s move to establish an academy for translation, he said a separate university should be opened to study languages like Chinese, Japanese, French, Spanish, Russia, German and Persian.

Sanskrit PG centre

Upadhya also welcomed the government’s step to establish Sanskrit University, and urged that a PG centre for Sanskrit should be established in Udupi. He also urged that immediate steps should be taken to better the condition of Sanskrit           teachers.

The appeals

Some of the important points raised by         Dr Upadhya are as follows:

* Works should be done to simplify the Halegannada like the work of L Basavaraju.
* Proper marketing arrangements should be done for the books published by the different government wings.
* A separate stall should be opened in all district central libraries to sell the books published by the government organisations.
* The programme of ‘Taragathigondu granthalaya’ of Valakadu High School should be a model for all schools in the state.
* The library in the Ambalapady temple should be a model for all other temples.
* An archeological centre of Alupas should be opened at Udyavara.
* A special task force should be established to preserve the rich heritage of the ancient temples which are decaying.
