Halappa effect on Mulbagal man

Shivaraj, an area distributor for a cellphone company in Mulbagal of Kolar district has been flooded with calls on his mobile after Chandravati claimed to have received threats calls from his number. Chandravati, the wife of a Shimoga financier, has accused the former Food and Civil Supplies minister Halappa of sexually assaulting her. In her complaint, Chandravati has alleged that she received five calls from Halappa from the number 9448436009 between November 31 and December 18.

Surprisingly, Shivaraj has the sim card with the same number. However, Shivaraj who has spoken to Mulbagal police and Kolar SP in this regard has said he has never met Halappa, leave alone making threat calls on his behalf.

According to Shivaraj, he has been flooded with calls since May 2 as TV channels began to flash his number. “I was taken aback when someone called addressing me Halappa. That day I was not even aware of the incident as I had not watched TV. A few called me and began to abuse me”, he said. There were even couple of calls consoling him saying, “Halappa I know, it is all a conspiracy”.

Shivaraj has received not less than 350 calls since the case broke out. He said he was shocked to know that the lady received threat calls from his number which has been with him since September 2003.

“The sim is registered in my name. I don’t know how anybody can have the same number,” he said. Notwithstanding the flood of calls, Shivaraj does not wish to switch off his  phone as he fears that would hamper his business and also make the police to doubt him. Shivaraj suspects that the complainant must have made a mistake while writing the number.
