Villagers abstain from voting

Gidnahalli and Hennur Kadirenahalli villages was declared as one Gram Panchayat constituency, and three members had to be elected.

Two candidates were elected unopposed from Gidnahalli village, while the same could not be emulated at Hennur Kadirenahalli village. As a result two candidates from Gidnahalli decided to contest in the Gram Panchayat elections. Thus, Gram Panchayat elections had to be held in both Gidnahalli and Hennur Kadirenahalli villages. The villagers of Gidnahalli got an opportunity to elect a candidate from Hennur Kadirenahalli village.

However, in order to maintain amicable relationship between the two villages, that date backs to several decades the Gidnahalli villagers abstained from the Gram Panchayat elections, said Taluk Panchayat former president Dr G R Gopal Reddy.

Two polling agents arrested

 Two polling agents tore ballot papers and assaulted staff at the polling booth at Chadalupur Gram Panchayat in Chikkaballapur taluk on Saturday. Tense situation prevailed for a while and the police had to resort to lathi charge to bring the situation under control. As a result voting was stalled for nearly an hour. The police arrested the tow polling agents, Srinivas of Chadalupur and Srinivasachari of Gaviganahalli.
