High drama in schools over transfer of principals

Last Updated 11 May 2010, 19:28 IST

In a rare move, the top brass of the school management transferred more than a dozen principals, including those of the Bishop Cotton schools, to various other institutions functioning under the Church of South India.

However, this has raised many eyebrows and the way the notices were sent to the principals concerned is also being criticised by many, including insiders. It is learnt that the principals received notices only on Tuesday morning and they have now sought time till May 14 to comply with the order.

Sources said that soon after the May 7 executive committee meeting wrapped up, notices were sent to the principals by hand but they refused to accept it. Immediately, a copy of the notice was pasted on the gates of the schools and copies were formally mailed to the principals.

On Monday, there was a high drama with both the principals and the management approaching the police. Finally, the principals convinced the police showing them the letter issued by the board itself suggesting that they move out by May 14.

Now, it is a catch-22 situation. Will the board members invite the new principals to take charge, or will the outgoing principals create obstacles for them? Or is there anything else brewing?
