Rangayana to start one-year diploma course in theatre

 Disclosing this to mediapersons here on Wednesday, Department of Kannada and Culture Secretary B R Jayaramaraje Urs said Rangayana artistes will serve as teaching faculty and experts from outside will be engaged as visiting faculty.

“Syllabus has been drawn up in consultation with experts on the topic. About 15 students will be selected through interview and they are entitled to scholarship during the course and will work as retainers at Rangayana for two years after that,” he added. Boarding and lodging facilities will be provided too during their years of association with Rangayana.

Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka State Open University K S Rangappa said the varsity will conduct exams, hold face-to-face classes at regular intervals, provide course materials and award the certificate at the end of the course, as specified by Rangayana. Incharge Director of Rangayana K T Chikkanna was present on the occasion.

Students who have passed II PUC and are within the age group of 18 to 28 years, can obtain application by sending DD or MO of Rs 50 to Rangayana, Kalamandira premises, Hunsur Road, Mysore before May 30. June 10 is the last date to submit applications.

Additional shows

Owing to its resounding success, Malegalalli Madumagalu, an overnight play by Rangayana has been extended by two shows on May 13 and 15.

The play is based on Rashtrakavi Kuvempu’s novel of the same name and is being currently performed at Rangayana. The nine-hour-long play starts at 9 pm and ends at 5 am.
