Abbakka Utsava from May 22

 Former minister B T Lalita Naik will inaugurate the Utsav while MP Nalin Kumar Kateel will preside over the function. MP Oscar Fernandes will inaugurate the cultural programmes.
Informing the same to media persons, Utsava Committee former president and MLA U T Khadar said the Utsava will begin with a ‘janapada dibbana’ which includes different folk arts like shilpa gombe kunita, yakshagana, 50 colourful umbrellas, keelukudure, dollukunita and chendevadana. Artists will be dressed up as Rani Abakka and her soldiers.


As a part of Utsava a number of conferences will be held on both the days.
Litterateur Prof Amrit Someshwar will speak on ‘Folk-art in Tulunadu’ while Kudkadi Vishwanath Rai will speak on ‘Classical dance and experiments’. Dr K Mahalinga Bhat will discuss on ‘Yakshagana and Tulu culture’ while ‘Drama and Experiments’ will be dealt by artiste Vijay Kumar Kodialbail. Special conference will be held on Indian Womanhood where the honored speakers will present papers.

A special programme ‘Abbakka Devige naada Prabhu namana’ has been organised on May 23 to commemorate the contributions of Veerarani Abakka in freedom fight.
Chief Minister Dr B S Yediyurappa will preside over the function.
Cultural programmes

A variety of cultural programmes like poets’ meet, classical dance performance, painting, folk dance, yakshagana, Tulu drama, poem recitation by poets, bharatanatyam, comedy show, Konkani cultural programmes and orchestra will be held on the occasion.
Hundreds of artistes are expected to be a part of the Utsava.

The valedictory programme will be presided over Union Law Minister and Justice Dr M Virappa Moily.
