Students in a fix over delayed CBSE results

Last Updated 20 May 2010, 19:53 IST

The Pre-University Education Department had set a common calendar of events for the first PUC academic year. Based on this calendar, the I PUC classes will begin on June 6. With CBSE results expected only a week later, students fear they may not secure admission.
Snehal Jain, a Class X student is worried that the delay in CBSE results may jeopardise her chances to secure a good seat for PUC science in top colleges.

She complained that the delay every year makes students lose out on top colleges despite securing good percentage in Class X examination.

Malavika Sharma, homemaker, whose son is also a CBSE Class X student, said, “We have procured the PUC application forms from top colleges, but the delay in announcement of results by the CBSE has hampered the admission procedure. Classes for first year PUC will begin in June first week, but because of the delay, my son has not been admitted to any college yet.”

A CBSE official said the compilation of the results in the southern region has been completed. But in other regions it is yet to be completed, forcing the the board to delay the result announcement. However, the PU Department has directed colleges to reserve certain percentage of seats for Class X students.

The last date for submission of demand draft in order to appear for the compartmental examination is July 17.

The application for the verification of marks may be submitted within 21 days from the date of declaration of results.
