GP member assaulted

Hanumegowda (40), Gram Panchayat member from Gantaganahalli, was allegedly assaulted by Nagaraj (60), also from the same village, and his two sons Naveen (28) and Mohan (25), police said.

They hit him on his head and hands with machetes. Later, he was taken to Sushrutha Hospital where he is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit, police added.

Sumithra Venkatesh, Hanumegowda’s sister who lives in Bhoopasandra, lodged a complaint with Chikkajala police alleging that former MLA Krishnappa was behind the attack. Police said Hanumegowda had defeated Nagaraj in the recent Gram Panchayat elections which brewed enmity. Nagaraj has been arrested and his two sons are absconding.
