The suspect was identified as Ramesh (30), a painter by profession, while the victim was Cauvery (25), a garment factory worker. The couple, with a seven-year-old daughter and a five-year-old son, resided in Avalahalli, said the police.

The couple, natives of Humnabad in Bidar district, came to Bangalore a few years ago to eke out a living. Ramesh had married his aunt’s daughter Cauvery. Differences of opinion cropped between the couple as Ramesh started suspecting her fidelity recently. He was also suffering from stomach ache and presumed that it was because of the black magic performed by his wife and aunt, the police added.

The couple quarrelled over the same issue on Monday night. An upset Ramesh, around 4.30 am when his wife and children were asleep, he took out a sickle, allegedly hacked his wife to death and surrendered before the police.
