Hearing a PIL by the South India Cell for Human Rights Education and Monitoring (SICHREM), which had written to the Chief Justice seeking directions to probe into the advocate’s killing, the division bench headed by Chief Justice P D Dinakaran warned the State government against taking the investigation lightly.
Advocate General Udaya Holla informed the Court that the police were probing the involvement of a few underworld persons and hence sought time.
State govt questioned
The Court also expressed its dissatisfaction over reports of murder being linked to a few police officials by a certain section of the media. It also sought to know why the State was defending such persons.
Only State police
The Court directed the State to secure all information related to the case and said that effective probe should be conducted. The Court refused probe by agencies other than the State police.
