Addressing the news conference on Monday at Deputy Commissioner’s office, Justice Nayak said that Commission had transferred one Inspector from Ankola as Clerk to Western Range IGP for dereliction of duty but Government has transferred the same Inspector to Bellary.

“This corrupt official from Ankola will be going to Bellary and one of the favourite official of one of the ministers from Bellary will come to Ankola. What can anyone do in such a situation,” he questioned and added that after continued requests to transfer Bellary SP, he was transferred with a promotion to Mangalore as Commissioner. “These are some of the instances where the state has played safe. On one hand the official is transferred to pacify us and on the other hand the official is also pleased by giving a promotion,” he ridiculed.

Justice Nayak said that though the Government responded positively to the report of the Commission with regard to ill treatment of farmers in Dharwad jail and in Bangalore manhole accident, Government has failed to take action against police high handedness.
He said that Commission is facing shortage of man power and at present they need as many as 500 personnel. As many as 105 personnel have been provided and Commission is functioning recruiting people on contract basis. Commission needs 20,000 sq ft office area too, which has not been provided yet, he said.
