The Forum has ordered the Executive Officer, Karnataka Haj Committee and the Chief Executive Officer, Haj House, to pay up Rs 23,650 with Rs 2,000 as costs to complainant Samiulla Khan, Deputy Commissioner of Commercial Taxes (Rtd)for deficient service.

Khan and his wife had embarked on a Haj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia on November 16, 2009, and returned to Bangalore on December 28, 2009. They paid up Rs 2,32,626 to the Chief Executive Officer, Haj House, towards cost of the pilgrimage.

Although the couple had paid the higher amount for being accomodated in a building closer to the Masjid, they were put in a building which was far away. Hence, the money they had paid for, had to be returned to them. However, this was not done and they complained to the Forum.

Forum president H V Ramachandra Rao found both parties guilty of deficient service and unfair trade practice.

Tire and tubes

The Forum has also come to the aid of R M Srinivas who had purchased four tires and tubes of MRF Limited from Madhus Enterprises. He also got wheel alignment done at the Ford Showroom. One tire and tube became useless and the defect was brought to the notice of the opposite party. Madhus Enterprises, who at first agreed to help, later said the tire and tube could not be replaced.

The Forum has ordered opposite parties to replace the tyre and tube to the complainant along with Rs 2000 as costs.

If they fail to replace the tyre and tube within 30 days, they shall pay the complainant Rs 5000 as compensation.

Insurance company

M G Jaganath had a Met Life policy in the name of his son. He had delayed the payment of one premium and it was not accepted. Met Life told him that his policy, Met Suvidha Limited Pay had been terminated though he had been paying up all premiums regularly for three and a half years.

He complained to the I Additional consumer forum which has found the insurance firm guilty of deficient service and has ordered it to pay up Rs 27,842 to the complainant within 30 days.
