Mangrove park closed down

The Kannur district authorities on Monday closed the controversial mangrove theme park set up by a CPM-based eco-tourism society at Pappinissery in the district amid a walkout by the UDF in the assembly.

As reported, the Ministry of Environment & Forests had ordered the closure of the park after investigations found that it had violated the coastal regulation laws. It was found that widespread construction had been undertaken in the ecologically fragile land and that it was not a mangrove protection effort.
