The factory allegedly used to store waste on its premises and release it into the water during monsoon when the water level in Ghataprabha rises.

Following rain during the past two days, water level increased in the river and the factory allegedly released the waste into the river, killing the fish.

Satish Jarkiholi, MLA and TMC Chief Officer rushed to the river bank and inspected the area. Jarkiholi termed the act of the factory as ‘unfortunate’ at a time when the people of the town were facing acute shortage of drinking water.

At the instance of Legislator Ramesh Jarkiholi the municipal authorities resolved to initiate action against the factory.

Activists of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike staged demonstrations in the town, demanding the closure of the factory.
