JOIN USOfficials quoting superintendent of police B L Meena said nearly 50,000 people gathered at the school ground on Sunday evening on the occasion of “Aztam,” when a thunderstorm struck the area. The stormy wind blew off the pandal as a result of which the pandal and the stage fell apart.
This resulted in a stampede in which three people were killed on the spot while many others succumbed to their injuries in hospitals.
Fire brigade and police rushed to the place and began the rescue operations. The injured were admitted to hospitals where some of them are stated to be in critical condition.
Four of the dead have been identified. District Magistrate Parvez Ahmed Siddiqui said that a high-level administrative probe has been ordered into the incident.
