
Mahananda (2) died on way to hospital on Thursday while Deepika Madivalayya (7) succumbed on Wednesday night. Though exact cause is yet to be ascertained, cholera is suspected and precautionary measures have been taken to check spread of the outbreak.
More than 20 people in Kerakalmatti of Badami taluk in Bagalkot took ill after drinking contaminated water on Thursday.
The residents, who were complaining of vomiting and diarrhoea for the last one week, were admitted after their condition turned critical, said district surgeon Dr Gundappa. Some of the children were given treatment in the school as well.
The potable water was contaminated due to mixing of sullage from the drainage while laying new pipelines for drinking water supply. Besides, Shivagangavva Gadada of the village told Deccan Herald two factories near the village also have contributed to the pollution.
