Last Updated 16 June 2009, 21:16 IST

Krishna will leave for Bhutan on Thursday. This is going to be his first foreign visit after assuming the office of the External Affairs Minister on May 25.

He had made it clear in his first interaction with media as the External Affairs Minister that he would accord highest priority to strengthen India’s political, economic and cultural relations with the neighbours and would visit them soon.

Krishna will call on Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk and Prime Minister Lyonchhoen Jigmi Y Thinley. Thinley will host a banquet in Krishna’s honour on the first day of his two-day visit.

He will flag off the Paro-Bagdogra flight of Bhutan’s government-owned airliner Druk Air on June 18.
