'Andhra cops behaved in inhuman way'

Andra Pradesh reserve police had opened fire and killed a person on the spot and injuring other two seriously over a trivial issue on May 1. 

The Magisterial inquiry was conducted by Puttur Assistant Commissioner Dr Harish Kumar. “Andhra police were not wearing uniforms. However, they had the problem of language. They were speaking only in Hindi and Telugu. It was not necessary to resort to lathi charge,” said the eyewitness.

The statements of 31 eye-witnesses (22 oral and 9 written) including Dharmasthala Painter Srinivas bin Shivappa Das, driver Bhaskar D, labourer Sheena Kayadi, Haridas, Sudhakar, Chandrashekar Sharma, Umanath Shetty, Dinesh, Manjusha, Naveen, Raghavendra, Shashidhar, Santhosh were documented.

Mahalinga was the only person who had seen firing and gave full account of the incident.
Later, AC Dr Harish Kumar visited Uday who was injured in the firing and assured to provide compensation at the earliest.

The inquiry will be held on June 22 at 11 am. The eye-witnesses can provide photos if any. Police will be summoned to the inquiry, he added.
