Terror suspect Viqar taken to Ahmedabad for further investigation

Viqar, who is presently under police custody, was taken to Ahmedabad yesterday, while five of his associates were being interrogated in Hyderabad itself, a senior police officer told PTI.
Viqaruddin Ahmed alias Viqar, 29, who was elusive since December 2008 after attacking police personnel here in which two cops were killed and as many injured, was arrested along with five of his associates last month.

According to police, Viqar, who is also responsible for killing a police constable in Ahmedabad in 2007, had taken shelter in Ahmedabad for the past few years and used to come to Hyderabad prior to anniversary of Mecca Masjid blast and attacked the cops to avenge the "police firing on Muslims".

Five persons were killed in police firing, after police fired on "protesting" crowds soon after the blasts in the historic Mecca Masjid that occurred on May 18, 2007, while nine others lost their lives in the blast.

Investigators intend to ascertain as to how the conspiracy was hatched and also want to know the source of firearms, weapons and logistic support the accused (Viqar and his aides) got in carrying out their activities.
