'Ship will not be moved until salvage efforts end'

 
However, the harbour will be cleared of floating containers by Tuesday evening. Big ships will be able to enter and leave Mumbai port by Sunday, Ramesh assured both Houses.
The MSC Chitra had in all 1,219 containers, 707 in the hold and 512 on the deck. The lashings of the containers can not hold long on account of high pressure due to the listing of the vessel. This has resulted in about 150 containers having broken off. Though there is oil spill around the vessel, no oil spill was observed in the harbour.

Ramesh said the Coast Guard was able to plug the oil leakage. Once the vessel is safe to board, salvagers will board the vessel and remove the fuel from the various tanks into barges to eliminate threat of pollution. The containers on deck will have to be removed and taken to Jawaharlal Nehru Port. Subsequently, the remaining containers in the holds will be removed and attempts  made to salvage the ships.
