Kumble to impart spin lessons to SA youngsters

Last Updated 13 August 2010, 18:33 IST

“It’s not like I am going to train the spinners over there,” the leg-spinner said here on Friday. “I have been invited as a guest speaker during their (CSA) annual conference next week and (Gerald) Majola (CSA CEO) asked me if I can spend some time with some of their young spinners,” clarified Kumble.

The Indian ace, who will captain Royal Challengers Bangalore in the upcoming Champions League from September 10 to 16, will also be joined in by South African spinners, left-armer Paul Harris and offie Johan Botha at the spin clinic.

Feeling honoured by Kumble’s gesture, Majola said: “Anil Kumble is a living legend, and CSA is honoured that he has accepted our invitation to come out to South Africa and work with tomorrow’s stars. We will also invite some of our women cricketers, young batsmen and wicket-keepers, who we believe, will benefit from the experience. We are confident that this visit is going to boost the good work being done in the spinning department.”

Kumble, who recently proposed an educational programme to the Board of Control for Cricket in India to make the young Indian cricketers aware of the pitfalls of instant stardom and money, has been asked to speak on challenges faced by today’s young cricketers.
