Hearing a public interest litigation by Chandrakala Manjunath, a resident of Bangalore, a  Division Bench comprising Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice Manjula Chellur ordered notice to Health Minister Sriramalu, State and Union governments to submit a report on Wednesday.

The petitioner submitted that the Health Minister had failed to control the spread of dengue and had publicly admitted the same. The petitioner’s son Yeshwanta Kumar succumbed to dengue on July 31.

“The authorities did not follow the World Health Organisation’s rule to check mosquito breeding in Bangalore. It is an obligation on the part of the government to implement WHO rules, but it has failed to discharge its duty,” Chidananda, counsel for the petitioner, said.

The petitioner has made the Health minister a party for he has failed to prevent the spread of the disease.

For the first time, the Bangalore Reporter’s Guild has also been made a party seeking directions to the State government to take the assistance of the BRG to control dengue in Bangalore.
