The parnasala or prayer hall is a lotus shaped 91-feet-high monument made of white marble intended to be a tribute to the Guru and his message of universal peace. Speaking on the occasion, the President called for allround effort to take the benefits of the country’s economic growth to the grassroots level of the society.

She praised the guru and the Santhigiri ashram for addressing the concerns of the less privileged and disadvantageous sections of society so as to build a more equitable and sustainable society.

Patil also congratulated the ashram for promoting traditional systems of medicine.  Governor R S Gavai presided over the ceremony. The President also had an audience with Her Holiness Sishyapoojitha Amritha Jnana Thapaswini, the present head of the ashram.
