Space station cooling normally after spacewalk fix

Last Updated 19 August 2010, 03:39 IST

The crew installed a new ammonia coolant pump Monday. That enabled flight controllers to activate the coolant loop that was knocked offline July 31st.

The orbiting lab needs two functioning cooling lines to keep on-board electronics from overheating.

NASA said on Wednesday that all of the equipment that was turned off following the breakdown is running again. Science research should resume on Thursday.

The two US astronauts who performed the three spacewalks got some time off today. Tomorrow, they will remove a jumper cable that provided cooling to equipment on the Russian side.
